108 acres under security forces in NP to be distributed among 197 families today

108 acres of land in Northern Province, currently under security forces will be released and distributed among 197 families today (03), the President’s Media Division (PMD) said on Thursday.

The PMD said this step had been taken on the directions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The PMD said the President made a pledge in January to release these lands prior to the 75th Independence Anniversary, on February 04.

The President last week said that there are about 3,000 acres of land that previously belonged to private owners under the control of security forces.

He said that most of the lands taken over by the security forces during Sri Lanka’s war against the LTTE had already been released. The President said he will release more land after consulting with defence authorities.
