Ex-CM wants CBK back

By Rathindra Kuruwita

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga can lift the country out of its current predicament, Peshala Jayarathne, former chief minister of north-central province, and member of the Nava Lanka Freedom Party (NLFP) said yesterday.

Addressing the media in Colombo, he said that there was a need to establish an administration that could stabilise and guide the country out of the current crisis.

“We have decided to unify all progressive groups under her leadership. We believe that she has the ability to steer the country in the right direction. There are many groups that are not happy about the way things are going and I am sure they will join us,” he said.

Jayarathne added that while they were willing to link up with any political group, they would not work with the current Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) leadership.

“We will not work with people who have betrayed the people’s mandate, especially the SLFP leadership who have been rejected by all,” he said.
