President Ranil Wickremesinghe had declared war on 22 million Sri Lankans on 23 and 24 November in Parliament, Education Secretary of the Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) Pubudu Jayagoda said. Wickremesinghe warned people not to protest and if they did, he would use the military to crush them, Jayagoda said.
“Ranil says he won’t let people protest. He also says he will not hold elections. The right to protest and the right to exercise their franchise are guaranteed by the constitution. Does he expect the people to listen to him and cower in fear? He knows people aren’t afraid of him. That’s why he is making threats.”
