Minister: Legal action will be taken against Third Secretary of Lankan Embassy in Oman

Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara told Parliament yesterday (22) that the Third Secretary of the Lankan Embassy, in Oman, had been suspended over the latter’s alleged involvement in trafficking Lankan women to Oman.

Minister Nanayakkara said there were 12 Lankan women at a safe house operated by the Lankan Embassy in Oman, and those who had been registered with the SLBFE, and another 65 who had used Visit Visas to travel to Oman.

He said that 70 Sri Lankan women, registered with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, and seven other Lankan women, had used Visit Visas and were currently held in Dubai.
