Prez won’t allow troublemakers in saffron robes to destabilise country

By Saman Indrajith

President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (24) told Parliament that he would not allow those wearing saffron robes to destabilise the country.Violence and anarchy was not a part of human rights, he said. By now not a single university student is in jail, he added.

Wickremesinghe said that there were limits to rights and the Constitution allowed the suspension of certain rights to protect national security.

“I can’t wait while some kids wearing the robe insult the chief incumbents. Those who are ordained must engage themselves in religious activities. They must not be involved in protests. I have no problem when lay people protest,” he said.
