Sri Lankan Environmental activist speaks at COP27

Environmental activist Anoka Abeyrathne recently spoke at the Conference of Parties 27 on how the gaps in climate change policy and issues related to young people translate into long-term challenges. She added that the knowledge gap that exists among individuals exclude a large number of individuals from contributing to climate change policies.

She also spoke of the need for transparency and accountability in climate financing. She also held discussion on renewable energy needs and the need for transparent climate financing mechanisms with key stakeholders including UK’s Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, former US Vice President Al Gore, and COP26 Regional Ambassador for the Asia-Pacific region, Ken O’Flaherty. She was supported by the British Councils of Sri Lanka, Egypt and the United Kingdom. Anoka is a graduate of the University of Cambridge’s Judge Business School and featured on the Forbes 30 under 30 list and the first Commonwealth Youth Awardee from Sri Lanka.
