Woman dies in shootout between cops and robbers

A woman who was travelling in a bus was killed during a shootout between police and a group of robbers at Danowita in Mirigama, yesterday.The Police Media Spokesperson’s Office said that acting on information that a gang was trying to rob a liquor shop, a police team had rushed to the scene.

The robbers opened fire on the police, and tried to escape. During the exchange of fire, a female passenger in a moving bus had been shot accidentally, the Police Media Spokesperson’s Office said.The 29-year-old victim died after being admitted to the Wathupitiwala Base Hospital.The Danowita Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
