President denies lunching with Mahendran

President Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament yesterday that he had not launched with former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran in Singapore while he was travelling to Japan.

SJB Colombo District MP S. M. Marikkar stated that the President had met his friend in Singapore and had lunch. “The President visited Japan recently. On his way, he spent six hours in Singapore. As per media reports, he met Singapore’s Internal Affairs Minister. But the reports that we have received say that he met former Central Bank Governor, Arjuna Mahendran, and had lunch with him.

The President, who was in the parliamentary complex, arrived in the chamber and said that he had not met Mahendran. “On my way to Japan, I met the Singaporean Internal Affairs Minister. I had breakfast with him. I had my lunch at Singapore Airlines. The departure was at 1 pm. After I boarded, I was served lunch. If you want I can submit the menu so that you may know what I ate then and there,” the President said.
