Three persons were killed and 55,435 others from 13,902 families were affected by floods and landslides at various places in the country during the past 72 hours, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).Rainy weather would continue till Wednesday (19), the DMC said.
Director of Irrigation (Hydrology) Eng. S.P.C. Sugeeshwara said the risk of floods in some areas would increase if heavy rains continued.Landslide warnings issued for six districts had been extended, considering the adverse weather conditions, the DMC said. The Department of Meteorology said the current heavy rains were due to the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) near the island.
