Some ‘VIP socialists’ in Sri Lanka had sent their children overseas for education, Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premedasa said at Horowpathana.
“I provided a bus to a school that was attended by two of these ‘VIP socialists’ and they got very angry. Getting a bus won’t solve all problems at the school, but it solves a number of issues faced by the school. Instead of attacking me, these socialists too must try to do something tangible for the people,” he said.
Premedasa said that some people had started calling him ‘Bus Man’. However, I will continue to assist the poor people of the country, the opposition leader said.
“There is no point in opposition parties fighting with each other. We must all work together to work for the people and to ensure that the government holds local council elections,” he said.
Premedasa said that the government was desperate to postpone the local council elections because they know that both the UNP were unpopular.
