By Rathindra Kuruwita

The MPs of the JVP-led NPP had to join forces with Dullas Alahapperuma and the Uttara Sabhawa to face the right-wing forces led by the UNP, Vasudewa Nanayakkara, MP, said.Nanayakkara added that in the future right-wing elements would back the UNP.

“A lot of SLPP MPs will also join this group. The new group formed by Chandrika Bandaranaike and sections of the SJB will also joint it. You can see that some SJB MPs, led by Harsha de Silva have accepted the economic policies of Ranil Wickremesinghe. Sajith Premadasa must understand what’s going on or he will be alone soon,” he said.

“We must talk. We will be compelled to work together given the current political reality. No party will be able win the coming elections on its own. The left will have to unite or perish,” he said,

Meanwhile MP Wimal Weerawansa said that the first executive meeting of Uttara Sabhawa will be on 18 September and soon they will hold a press conference to unveil their plans.

Weerawansa denied reports that imported Russian crude was of inferior quality. He added that the Russian oil companies that they had invited would offer to sell oil on terms favourable to Sri Lanka.

“We have not got Russian oil yet. We have got crude from Dubai,” he said.
