The World University Sports Day celebrations will be held at the Colombo University premises today. The World University Sports Day was introduced by the International University Sports Association and UNESCO. The event here is organized by the Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association.
The World University Sports Day, announced since 2016 to promote mutual harmony through sports among the entire university student community, was held for the first time in Sri Lanka in 2020 at the University of Kelaniya. Last year it was held at Sri Jayawardenepura University through Zoom technology. Several new features have been planned for this year’s celebrations at Colombo University and more than 300 selected students representing all the state universities of the island will participate.
The event, which is to be held in the presence of the Vice Chairman of University Grants Commission, Senior Professor Chandana P. Udawatte, will be attended by many dignitaries including directors of physical education and instructors of all the state universities in the island.
