An unidentified gang yesterday pulled down a stage the Uttara Lanka Sabhagaya (ULS) put up at Hanguranketha for its district convention.
Arrangements had been made to hold the ULS’ Nuwara Eliya District meeting at the Hanguranketha Cultural hall and the event was to be addressed by Wimal Weerawansa and other ULS leaders. The attackers had invaded the place early in the morning and destroyed the stage and decorations, the organizers of the convention said.
Later the meeting was held at the same venue under police protection.
