Govt. has got tough with errant job agents – Manusha

Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara told Parliament on Saturday that steps had been taken to ban 400 employment agencies for failing to provide the required information regarding those who went overseas on tourist visas for employment.Participating in the third reading stage debate on budget 2023, the minister said steps had been taken to regulate the owners of foreign employment agencies.

He said that temporary bans had also been imposed on agencies that received their commissions through the Undial money transfer system.He added that although permits to run such agencies had been previously given for Rs. 700,000, it will be increased to Rs. 3,000,000 in the near future.
