No more power cuts, says Minister

By Ifham Nizam

Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera said that there will be no power cuts from yesterday as the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) had approved the latest tariff hike.

The Minister said that the decision to increase tariff had been difficult and that they had tried to reduce costs.

“We don’t want to burden the people, but there are no alternatives,” he said.

Sri Lanka introduced a one-hour power cut in January 2022 and by the following month it increased to 2.30 hours.
