Justice Minister questions logic of keeping CIABOC

Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe yesterday asked Parliament why the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corrution (CIABOC) should be maintained as it had failed to investigate complaints from the public.

Participating in the second reading stage debate on Budget 2023, the Minister said that he had made four to five complaints to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption but none of them has been investigated.

“What is the use of such a commission for the country if it does not investigate complaints? After my complaints, the commission summoned me there to get my statements. Each time I was questioned for three to four hours to take down my statements as complaints in writing. They spent hours questioning the complainant. Yet they have not been able to investigate any of those complaints,” the Minister said.
