Landslide warnings in several areas

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO), on Sunday, issued landslide warnings for several areas in Badulla, Kandy and Kegalle districts. The NBRO said those areas had received over 75 ml of rain during the last 24 hours and that more heavy showers were expected in the coming days. People living in those districts have been asked to remain alert due to the possibility of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cutting failures and ground subsidence. Meanwhile, the Met Development said heavy showers, above 100 millimeters, were likely in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Southern provinces in the coming days. (RK)
