St. Joseph’s win All Island Schools U18 basketball title

St. Joseph’s College, Darley Road emerged Under 18 ‘A’ Division Champions as they beat Gateway International 63-53 in the finals of the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Tournament concluded at the Nalanda College premises on Sunday.

While Methika Jayasinghe won the Most Valuable player award, Abhaya Gajamange was adjudged the beat offensive player.

On their way to the final the Joes registered victories against Gateway (61- 42), St. Benedict’s (80-25), Mahinda (49-28), Ananda (70-35), S. Thomas’ (quarter-finals 68-32) and D. S. Senanayaka, Colombo (semi-final 69-40).

The championship winning team were captained by Charaka Perera. The others in the team were Maneth Perera, Abaya Gajmange, Kavin D. Almeida, Methika Jayasinghe, Mareen Abishake, Darren Bernard, Adrian Wijayawardena, Adrian Gunasekara, Damketh Dammalage, Chamindu Wijesinghe, Methuka Karannagoda, Manish Perera and Aaron Gerald.

The Joes were coached by Randima Sooriyarachchi and Shane Daniel.
