Gerald A Hidelaratchi was recently awarded by the institute of Supply and Management Chain (ISMM) Lifetime Award at the 51st Anniversary meeting of the ISMM Sri Lanka.
He was a founder member of the ISMM, senior delegate and vice president of the International Federation of Purchasing and Management. He was also the past president of the Organization of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka. He was further recognized for his many contributions towards elevating the supply chain profession in Sri Lanka.
He is also a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute of the UK. Chartered Companions are a select group of top leaders from across the globe, recognized for their outstanding management and leadership.
Hidelaratchi is an old boy of St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy and a graduate of University of Ceylon. He was an outstanding sportsman and was captain of his school’s first eleven cricket and soccer teams, a cadet, an athlete and a hockey player. He was the Head Prefect of the college for 1957 and 1958 and was the recipient of the Cingolani’ gold medal for the Best All Round Student in 1958.
He demonstrated these sporting skills at the University of Ceylon and was awarded colours in cricket and soccer whilst also playing rugby, basketball and hockey and participating in athletics. He was Vice President of the University Sports Council in 1961 and 1962.
He held several senior positions in the government and public sector, private sector and the international sector. After nearly 60 years of dedicated service, he remains active within the ISMM and OPA though now in retirement.
