The Court of Appeal yesterday granted leave to proceed with examining the petition filed, challenging the citizenship of the State Minister of Tourism Diana Gamage.

Taking up for consideration the writ application yesterday, the Court ordered the Immigration and Emigration Controller to submit the relevant documents on her citizenship.

The Court fixed the next calling date of the petition for 12 Dec.

The writ application was filed on 15 November by civil activist Oshala Lakmal Anil Herath seeking a ruling that Gamage was disqualified to serve as an MP.

An overseas travel ban that was earlier imposed on State Minister Diana Gamage is in effect until 15 Dec.

State Minister Diana Gamage, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, and the Chairman of the National Election Commission among 15 others were named as respondents in the case.

The Court ordered for notice to be served on the respondents to make their submissions with regard to the matter.

The Controller General of Immigration and Emigration was also ordered by the Court of Appeal to submit all documents related to the citizenship of Diana Gamage to the Court.
