Jaishankar expected here later in January

India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, will visit Sri Lanka later this month alongside a visit to the Maldives although dates have not been announced either in Colombo or New Delhi, according to authoritative sources.

This will be his first visit here following President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s assumption of office. India under its ‘Neighborhood First’ policy has been of immense assistance to Sri Lanka during last year’s economic turmoil. The visit is likely see debt restructuring arrangements on pre-2022 debt finalized.Observers also expect Wickremesinghe to make a state visit to India in the short term.
