Move to conduct all Law College exams in English medium defeated

A vote taken on the gazette notification seeking to make English language compulsory for Sri Lanka Law College examinations was defeated, overwhelmingly, yesterday, in Parliament, with 113 MPs voting against it; only one MP voted in its favour.

Both government and Opposition MPs voted against the implementation of the gazette, while only Galle District MP Chandima Weerakkody voted for the gazette.

The Extraordinary gazette notification (2208/13) issued in December 2020, sought to make it compulsory to conduct all Law College Examinations only in the English medium. (SI)
