Ratnayake Central, Lyceum International crowned champions

Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championship

Lyceum International, Wattala and Ratnayake Central, Walala won the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively of the Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championships concluded at Diyagama on Friday.

It was the 21st time that the girls from Walala won the title, while Lyceum achieved a historic first, becoming the first international school to win the coveted boys’ title.

Ratnayake Central dominated Under 20 girls’ middle and long-distance events with their star athlete Tharushi Karunaratne accounting for three individual gold medals and a record-breaking relay performance on the final day. Lyceum earned most of their points in field events with Tharusha Mendis registering a new meet record in the Under 16 high jump.
