Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday revealed that the government owed banks, foreign and local suppliers (manufactures) and hospitals a staggering Rs 45 bn.
The Minister said so in response to a media query, posed at a hastily arranged press conference to answer allegations pertaining to procurement via the Indian credit line.
According to lawmaker Rambukwella, the Health Ministry owed Rs 16 bn to banks, Rs 15 bn to foreign suppliers, Rs 10 bn to hospitals and Rs 4 bn to local suppliers/manufacturers. (SF)
