Deputy Speaker denies accusations ganja grown on land leased by him

Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa yesterday (17) asked the House Privileges Committee to inquire into unsubstantiated claims that ganja had been grown in a land leased by him in the Hambantota District. Denying that he had leased the land in question where the Special Task Force (STF) recently carried out the raid, the Hambantota District MP urged Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to conduct an investigation to clear his name expeditiously.

The SLPP politician also requested the IGP to investigate a law enforcement officer who had provided false information to the media. Referring to a previous instance of media harassment, the Deputy Speaker found fault with the police for not conducting an investigation. (SF)
