CBSL Bill passes muster with SC

 

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informed Parliament yesterday that the Supreme Court had determined that the Central Bank (Amendment) Bill was consistent with the Constitution.

At the commencement of yesterday’s parliamentary session, the Speaker noted that the Supreme Court had determined that none of the provisions in the bill were inconsistent with the constitution.

The apex court has determined that the Bill can be passed by a simple majority in Parliament, subject to amendments mentioned in the determination.

The Supreme Court bench consisting of Justice Priyantha Jayawardena PC, Justice Kumudini Wickremesinghe and Justice Arjuna Obeysekera.
