A high-level delegation led by the Director General of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) International Dr. Yun Young-ho visited Sri Lanka under the invitation of former President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena recently. The delegation had fruitful meetings with President Ranil Wickramasinghe , Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardane and the Speaker of the Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane. The delegation called on President Ranil Wickremesinghe at Presidential secretariat.
During the meeting Director General Yun briefed about UPF’s ongoing activities such as “Think Tank Global Forum, “International Elders’ Roundtable” among others. In addition, Dr. Yun proposed President Ranil to support the establishment of “Asia Pacific Union” to realize the dream of Asian Century. Dr. Yun appreciated Sri Lanka’s contribution to the cause of global peace and the peace activities of the UPF. Dr. Yun also proposed president Ranil to host UPF’s 3rd Asia Pacific Summit in Colombo. The 1st and 2nd Asia Pacific Summit were held in Nepal and Cambodia respectively on 2018 and 2019.
A member of the delegation as well as lawmaker from Nepal, Ek Nath Dhakal briefed about the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) and invited Sri Lankan lawmakers to participate its future activities. Dhakal chair the IAPP in Asia Pacific. According to him, over six thousand lawmakers from 85 Parliaments are associated with IAPP.In response, President Ranil commend UPF for its unparalleled peace works throughout the world and assured Sri Lanka’s support to these noble goals.
