Kishan’s PowerPlay blitz nullifies Venkatesh Iyer’s century

Venkatesh Iyer’s maiden T20 century was in vain as Ishan Kishan’s powerplay blitz and a vintage Suryakumar Yadav show helped Mumbai Indians down Kolkota Knight Riders by 5 wickets for a second successive win in IPL 2023. Venkatesh hammered a 49-ball hundred – only the second one for KKR in IPL’s 16-season history – to propel them to a strong 185/6 after being put in to bat in Mumbai’s scorching heat on Sunday afternoon. However, Kishan’s fiery half-century upfront, and cameos from their stand-in skipper and Tim David ensured MI romped home with 14 deliveries to spare.

Brief scores:

Kolkata Knight Riders 185/6 in 20 overs (Venkatesh Iyer 104; Hritik Shokeen 2-34, Piyush Chawla 1-19) lost to Mumbai Indians 186/5 in 17.4 overs (Ishan Kishan 58, Suryakumar Yadav 43; Suyash Sharma 2-27) by 5 wickets
