Sirisena claims SLFP now attracting a better class of politicians

Party’s national organiser Duminda Dissanayake back in the fold?

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has no reason to try and win over those who had left the party to take ministerial portfolios, former president, and party chairman Maithripala Sirisena said on Sunday night, following a meeting of the party central committee.

The SLFPers who hold ministerial portfolios had not been invited to the meeting. However, the party’s National Organiser, Duminda Dissanayake, who was not invited to the previous meeting, had been asked to join the meeting.

Sirisena said that the SLFP was attracting a better class of politicians and that people of the country are tired of palace intrigues and crossovers.

Commenting on the future elections, he said that a number of parties were exploring the possibility of setting up a common front.

“However, we can also contest alone, and I think we have the capacity to do so,” Sirisena said.

Party Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera said that if those who had joined the government wanted to rejoin the party, they must first resign from the current administration.

Meanwhile, national organiser Duminda Dissanayake said that a large number of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs want to join the SLFP.

“The SLPP was formed with our MPs,” he said.
