Police save baby girl abandoned in paddy field

The Polpithigama police found a one-day-old girl abandoned in a paddy field and admitted her to the Polpithigama Base Hospital on Saturday (02). On hearing a baby crying at Bogollagama paddy field in Koruwawa, a woman alerted the Police, who rushed to the scene and found the baby wrapped in a piece of cloth. They took the newborn to the maternity ward of the Polpithigama Base Hospital.

Woman police constable (6621) P. Sureka, who had returned to work after maternity leave and dentist Nadeeshani Nimanthika Kalambula breastfed the baby. Although the infant was in a stable condition, steps would be taken to transfer the baby girl to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital for internal examination, Dr. Aswini Senaviratne said.The Polpitigama police are conducting investigations.
