JVP blames President for candidate’s death

The JVP yesterday said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe should take the responsibility for the death of its candidate due to police attack on an NPP protest in Colombo on Sunday..

Addressing the media, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva pledged to fight to restore democracy in the name of the member who sacrificed his life for the same.

A JVP-led NPP local government candidate injured during Sunday’s protest in Colombo, died yesterday (27).

The deceased was identified as 61-year-old Nimal Amarasiri.

JVP MP Vijitha Herath, NPP Ex-co members Dr Nihal Abeysinghe, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara and JVP trade union wing leader KD Lalkantha also addressed the media.
